Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal in India.
The previous name of it was Calcutta. Until 2001 it was known as Calcutta. It was India's capital from 1773 to 1911. According to the 2011 Indian census, it is the seventh most populous city in India. The population of the city is 4.5 million. Today it is known for its Colonials architecture. people says it city of joy, city of culture and city of heritage also.
LOCATION
Kolkata Located on the east bank of Hooghly river. It is 80 kilometres west away from the Bangladesh
border. Kolkata cover total 205 kilometers square in India. There has a bridge which is called the Howrah bridge which connect the Kolkata to Howrah.Some famous places of Kolkata
Victoria memorial Hall
It is architecture surrounded by a garden.The Victoria Memorial is a large marble building in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, which was built between 1906 and 1921.
It is dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria, then Empress of India, and is now a museum and tourist destination under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.[2] The memorial lies on the Maidan (grounds) by the bank of the Hooghly River, near Jawaharlal Nehru Road (better known as Chowringhee Road).
Prince ghat
Prinsep Ghats is a ghat built in 1841 during the British Raj, along the Kolkata bank of the Hooghly River in India.
The Palladian porch in the memory of the eminent Anglo-Indian scholar and antiquary James Prinsep was designed by W. Fitzgerald and constructed in 1843.
People come here on weekends for boating, chilling. And purchase food from there stalls.
Dakshineswar Temple
Dakshineswar Kali Temple is a Hindu navaratna temple located at Dakshineswar. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, the presiding deity of the temple is Bhavatarini, an aspect of Kali, meaning, 'She who liberates Her devotees from the ocean of existence i.e. Saṃsāra'. The temple was built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni, a philanthropist and a devotee of Kali. The temple is famous for its association with
Ramakrishna, a mystic of 19th Century Bengal.
Nicco park
Nicco Park is an amusement park located in Jheel Meel, Sector - IV of Salt Lake City, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The park was created to attract tourists to the state by providing family-friendly recreation as well as educational entertainment.
Nicco Park opened on 13 October 1991 and has since been referred to as the Disneyland of West Bengal. Presently, the 40 acre park is home to over 35 different attractions and has served over 24 million customers. Nicco Park also provides a "green" environment.
Eco park
New Town Eco Park (Prakriti Tirtha) is an urban park in New Town, Kolkata and the biggest park so far in India.The park is situated on a 480 acres (190 ha) plot and is surrounded by a 104 acres (42 ha) waterbody with an island in the middle. The park was conceptualised by Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee in July 2011.
Science city

Lake gardens
Lake Gardens is a neighbourhood of South Kolkata, in Kolkata district, West Bengal, India. It has Kalighat to the north, Jodhpur Park to the east, Prince Anwar Shah Road or Tollygunge to the south and Charu Market to the west.
It's a lake with various trees.some people say it produces 20% of the oxygen of Kolkata.
Eden garden
The Eden Gardens is a Cricket & Football multipurpose ground in Kolkata, India. It was established in 1864. It is the oldest cricket stadium in India. It will be the home ground of East Bengal FC in ISL season 7 2020-21. It is the oldest[4][5][6]and second largest cricket stadium in India after the newly built Sardar Patel Stadium and third in the world after Sardar Patel Stadium and Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It is the home venue of the Bengal cricket team and the IPL franchise cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders, and is also a venue for Test, ODI and T20I matches of the India national cricket team. The stadium currently has a capacity of 80,000.[7][6][4] On 22 November 2019, the venue hosted the first ever day/night test match in India during second Test between India and Bangladesh.[8
Kalighat temple
Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple in Kalighat, Kolkata, West Bengal, India dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. Kalighat was a Ghat sacred to Kali on the old course of the Hooghly river in the city of Kolkata.
It's not just a temple, it's also a ghat beside the bank of adi ganga.
Alipore zoo
The Zoological Garden, Alipore (also informally called the Alipore Zoo or Calcutta Zoo) is India's oldest formally stated zoological park (as opposed to royal and British menageries) and a big tourist attraction in Kolkata, West Bengal. It has been open as a zoo since 1876, and covers 18.811 ha (46.48 acres). It is probably best known as the home of the now expired Aldabra giant tortoise Adwaita, who was reputed to have been over 250 years old when he died in 2006. It is also home to one of the few captive breeding projects involving the Manipur brow-antlered deer. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Kolkata, it draws huge crowds during the winter season, especially during December and January. The highest attendance till date was on January 1, 2018 with 110,000 visitors.

Howrah bridge
Howrah Bridge is a bridge with a suspended span over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. Commissioned in 1943,[8][10] the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah and Kolkata (Calcutta).
On 14 June 1965 it was renamed Rabindra Setu after the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was the first Indian and Asian Nobel laureate.[10] It is still popularly known as the Howrah Bridge
Some other famous places of Kolkata are marble palace, kutub minar, salt lake stadium etc.
Culture and festival of Kolkata
Kolkata has been a pioneering city in Indian renaissance. It has long been known for its literary, artistic and revolutionary heritage. As the former capital of India, and now known as the "Cultural Capital of India", not only Kolkata, but Bengal was the birthplace of modern Indian literary, artistic and scholastic thought. Bengalis tend to have a special appreciation for art and literature; its tradition of welcoming new talent has made it a "city of furious creative energy".[1]
An adda involves an informal discussion usually involving friends talking over a bhaar (cup) of tea on current issues. An adda may be viewed as a form of intellectual exchange among members of the same socio-economic strata. It is most popular among the youths belonging to the so-called "middle-class intelligentsia".
Kolkata's best festival is Durga puja. On this occasion kolkata looks beautiful.kolkata starts the day with a feast and ends the day with pandal hopping.
